Bone Grafting and Sinus Lifts
If you are preparing to undergo dental implant surgery, you must have enough bone structure to support the titanium posts. Unfortunately, bone degeneration is a common side effect of tooth loss. Therefore, if you have been missing teeth for quite some time, it may have taken a toll on your oral structure. With bone grafting and sinus lifts, Dr. Hacker can build up your jawbone to create a strong base for your dental implants. He will use digital x-rays, cone beam imaging, and computed tomography (CT) scans to gain a comprehensive view of your oral structures. In this way, he can accurately determine the areas where your jaw has started to shrink.
For a bone graft, Dr. Hacker will typically use your own bone to build up your jaw. However, in some cases, he may use animal bone or a synthetic substitute. To perform the graft itself, he will create small incisions in your gums. Through these incisions, he will place the bone and anchor it to your jaw using titanium screws. The sinus lift procedure is similar, and used on the upper dental arch. During this treatment, Dr. Hacker will also modify your sinus membranes to make room for the implant posts.
Dr. Hacker will use local anesthesia to numb your gums and jawbone during these procedures. He uses a special type of medication that makes these injections virtually pain-free. Though bone grafting and sinus lifts involve minimal discomfort, he also offers several types of sedation to reduce any anxiety you may have.
Dr. Hacker offers advanced, comfortable treatment for gum disease. This disease occurs when plaque and bacteria on your teeth spread below the gum line, settling in pockets in your soft tissues. If left untreated, your gums will eventually begin to pull away from the bone. This can lead to widespread tooth loss and gum recession. Dr. Hacker uses the state-of-the-art Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) to eliminate bacteria with minimal discomfort. After removing plaque and tartar from your teeth, he will use the laser to reseal your gum tissue and lay the tissues flat against your bone. Thanks to the advanced technology, you will have benefit from a reduced recovery and post-treatment sensitivity.
Dr. Hacker may also recommend gingivectomy to remove or reshape loose or diseased gum tissue. Using dental lasers, he can precisely reshape the soft tissues to improve your oral health.
Dr. Hacker also uses lasers to make cosmetic adjustments to your gums. If your gum line is uneven, or if you have a disproportionate amount of gum tissue, you may be a good candidate for laser gum reshaping. The dentist will eliminate tiny amounts of tissues to smooth your gum line to enhance your smile. As with LANAP®, the treatment involves minimal discomfort and recovery.
Dr. Hacker also performs extractions for damaged teeth, as well as wisdom teeth. Before either type of extraction, he will numb your gums with local anesthesia. He can also recommend an appropriate restorative treatment to replace your missing tooth.
Dr. Hacker proudly uses advanced laser technology for all wisdom tooth extractions. The surgical laser helps blood clots to form in the incision site. This technology virtually eliminates your risk of developing dry socket, a painful and serious condition. Best of all, the tool destroys the chemicals that cause swelling, meaning you will experience minimal discomfort and a fast recovery.
