Teeth Whitening Can Improve Your Smile and Self-Confidence

Even if you have otherwise healthy teeth, dental discoloration can prevent you from looking and feeling your best. Fortunately, the teeth whitening treatments offered at our Memphis office can effectively lighten your teeth by up to eight shades. Dr. Timothy Hacker proudly offers Zoom® at-home and in-office treatments. Both methods can achieve comparable results, and he will help you select the treatment that best suits your schedule and budget. He can also combine the two methods to help you maintain your beautiful smile for years to come. Contact us today to learn how you can benefit from our effective, personalized care.

What Causes Dental Stains?

There are two types of dental stains: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic stains are less common, and they are often caused by certain medications or medical conditions. Unfortunately, teeth whitening treatment typically cannot address intrinsic stains. However, our other cosmetic dentistry treatments, such as porcelain veneers or bonding, can conceal this discoloration and enhance your smile.

Extrinsic stains may result from several different factors, including smoking, age, and genetics. Food and drinks are the most common causes of extrinsic discoloration. Molecules from heavily pigmented foods can adhere to your dental enamel. Additionally, highly acidic and sugary foods will eventually erode your enamel and expose the soft layer of dentin underneath. Dentin is naturally off-white, and food molecules can form stronger bonds with the porous layer. Teeth whitening will break apart the chemical bonds between stains in an easy, comfortable treatment.

In-Office Whitening

We proudly offer Zoom2®, the second generation of the popular Zoom® in-office treatment. Dr. Hacker will apply a powerful whitening gel to your teeth and activate it using a specially designed light. He will repeat this process three times for 15 minutes at a time. After a full 45-minute session, your teeth could be up to eight shades lighter. In-office treatment may be the right solution for you if you have a big event to prepare for or you simply prefer to have dentist supervision throughout your treatment.

Take-Home Treatment

We also offer Zoom DayWhite® and NiteWhite® at-home options. Dr. Hacker will provide custom-made trays that fit comfortably around your teeth. You will fill the trays with whitening gel and wear them every day, as instructed by the dentist. If you choose DayWhite®, you will typically wear the trays 30 to 45 minutes a day for two weeks. NiteWhite® treatment also lasts about two weeks, but you will wear the trays while you sleep. Both forms of take-home treatment offer comparable results to in-office care. You might benefit from DayWhite® or NiteWhite® if you are on a budget, but you still want to enjoy a dazzling smile.

We can also combine the two forms of treatment. If you choose in-office care, we can provide whitening trays and gel for touch-ups. You will also be able to purchase more whitening gel later on. You should consult with Dr. Hacker before beginning any regular touch-up routine.

Why Choose Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening can have a dramatic impact on your smile and overall appearance. Both in-office and at-home treatments are affordable, effective, and discomfort-free. Best of all, your whiter smile could give you a huge boost of self-esteem. You may even find that your professional, social, and personal life improves as a direct result of your newfound confidence.
